Purification Technologies Small Molecules

At KD Pharma we provide multiple state-of-the-art separation and purification technologies. These technologies, from lab to multi-tons scale, allow for the production of pure molecules from complex chemical mixtures, lipids or natural products. Importantly, all those technologies can be provided as a stand-alone solution or part of a process manufacturing step.

The main technology groups are:

Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC). In the SFC process, input material coming from the SFE process (Supercritical Fluid Extraction) is passed through a chromatographic column which is packed with a highly selective separation material and CO2 as eluant. This allows a very smooth and effective solvent free purification.

The technology is well suited for temperature or oxidation sensitive complex molecules.

Simulated Moving Bed Technology (SMB) is a highly engineered process for implementing chromatographic separation. It is used to separate one chemical compound or one class of chemical compounds from one or more other chemical compounds based on their geometry and has advantages over using simple (batch) HPLC chromatography.

The technology allows the production of large quantities of highly purified material at a continuous and high rate of production, solvent recovery (>90%) and energy requirements. When combined with other KD Pharma technologies, SMB can produce extremely high yield and purity chiral separations of small molecule APIs and other types of ingredients.

Distillation and Rectification capabilities extend from Shorth Path Distillation to High Performance Rectification unit.

We have the capacity to integrate purification steps from kg scale to multiple hundreds of tons.
